Burly 1.9.0: Now on Intel Macs

I’m shipping Burly 1.9.0 as a universal app. One download now runs natively on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, with the same picker, profiles, private windows, and bypass.

Download for Mac

Matt Senter is an independent Mac developer who designs, builds, and ships small native apps end to end. He built Burly to send every link on his own Mac to the right browser profile, including Safari profiles, which most routers cannot reach, and he writes these pages from that first-hand use.

Burly’s mascot welcomes an older desktop and a modern laptop, both showing a radial picker beneath an Arctic aurora.

One download for both kinds of Mac

My site said “macOS 13 or later”, but until now I shipped only Apple Silicon builds. Intel owners could download Burly, but it would not open. I’ve fixed that in 1.9.0: the same download now runs natively on both.

The same Burly on Intel

Burly 1.9.0 works on Intel Macs running macOS 13 Ventura through macOS 26 Tahoe, the last macOS release for Intel. The browser picker, Safari, Chrome, and Firefox profiles, private windows, and bypass all work the same.

Background update checks are your choice

I’ve turned “Notify me when there is an update” off by default for new installs, and the onboarding checkbox starts unticked. Burly makes no background update check until you turn it on. If you already had it on, your setting is kept. You can always choose Check for Updates from the menu bar menu, or turn background checks on or off in Settings → System. See my Privacy Policy.

Also in 1.9.0

I’ve fixed Check for Updates so its window comes to the front. Previously, it could open behind other apps and make the click look like it did nothing. Download Burly 1.9.0 or read the release notes.
