Help

Quick answers for setting up Burly, fixing the common problems, and managing your Supporter license.

Getting started

How do I make Burly handle the links I click?
Set Burly as your default web browser. Open System Settings, go to Desktop & Dock, and choose Burly under Default web browser. From then on every http and https link goes to Burly first, and Burly hands it to the browser profile you pick.
Why does Burly ask for Accessibility permission?
Only Safari profiles need it. Safari has no public way to open a link in a named profile, so Burly presses Safari’s own New Profile Window menu item through the Accessibility API. Grant it in System Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Accessibility. Chrome, Firefox, and the other browsers work without it. The Safari profile switcher guide explains the details.

Fixing common problems

A link meant for a Safari profile opened in the wrong window.
Check three things: Safari is already running, Burly is switched on under Privacy & Security, then Accessibility, and Safari’s menus are in English. Burly finds each profile by its menu title, so all three have to be true.
A browser profile is missing from the picker.
Burly finds profiles on its own and picks up changes as you make them. For Safari, switch to Safari once so Burly can look again. If the profile still isn’t there, open Burly’s Settings and check that it isn’t hidden. The supported browsers page lists every browser Burly can route to.
How do I skip the picker for one link?
Hold your bypass modifier while you click, Option unless you’ve changed it. The link goes straight to your last-used profile, or to the one you pinned under What to open. You can also flip it so a plain click skips the picker and the modifier brings it up. See Features for the full setup.

Supporter license

What does becoming a Supporter do?
One $1.99 payment turns off the small promotions in the picker and lets you reach a real person through Contact Support. Every feature is free for everyone. See Pricing for the details.
I paid, but Burly still shows promotions.
Click Activate on the page you landed on after checkout. If that didn’t open Burly, copy the license token from the same page and paste it in Burly’s Settings, under Supporter. Both need Burly 1.4.0 or later; if you don’t see a Supporter section in Settings, click the Burly menu bar icon and choose Check for Updates…
I reinstalled Burly or set up a new Mac.
Go to Restore a License and enter the email you paid with. We send a code, and your license comes right back.
